This is sort of an embarrassing topic. Over the years I have smoked on and off (mostly off), but for some reason when I travel, I have this REALLY strong urge to light up a cigarette. It is gross, bad for me, and becoming more and more inconvenient. Lighters are confiscated at security, there are almost no airports that allow smoking anymore, and 12-13 hours trapped in a metal tube with no way to “step outside” just makes the whole experience worse.

I felt it was appropriate to add a special section just for smoking alternatives, since I know there are others in the same situation as myself.

Gums and patches are ok, but do not really mimic the way nicotine enters your body in that regular smoking does. Your body kind of gets satisfaction, but not completely. Something just is missing with these methods.

But, there is something new that we stumbled across … the e-Cigarette. This is not a gimmick, and something to take a serious look at.

First of all, it is a cigarette, which is helps it and hurts the e-cig industry at the same time. Being a cigarette, you are able to smoke it like you would a tobacco cigarette. The difference is that all you are smoking is water vapor (smoke), nicotine and flavoring. Not too bad ! The downside is that being a “cigarette” it is subject to all the other advertising bans that cigarettes are subject to. Also it is not approved as a non-smoking aid, so it cannot be advertised as one.

The result is that this amazing product is kind of stuck in the word of mouth and social networking area of advertising. Also, there are quite a few out there, which you do not know what is in the cartridge or what quality level they are held to. Below are two products that my wife and I use, and are getting all our friends to borrow or buy. We use it, and could never go back to a tobacco cigarette again. Eventually we will quit e-cigs too, but in the meantime we are doing something that does not repulse us and is actually cheaper than “regular” cigarettes.

Green Smoke

Green Smoke is the first product we tried. The ingredients are very simple, and the design is straightforward. You have a cigarette (battery) and a screw in smoke/flavor cartridge. Very easy to use, and I like the fact it is refreshed after every cartridge change. Also this method seems to produce the most smoke volume per puff. It seriously feels like you are smoking, and the amount of vapor you receive makes a big difference.

blu Cig

This brand is like Green Smoke in quality. All ingredients are made in the US, and have very similar ingredients. All the smoke is based off of water vapor and has a decent volume. Flavors are very good, but not as much as a variety as with Green Smoke. Where blu Cig wins is in the design and trendy-ness factor. They have a great packaging option with a “Cig Pack” that holds your E-Cig and flavor cartridges and charges. Also the look is very cool with the black cigarette and the blue LED. Very different, and very cool.

UPDATE

Looks like bluCig is looking at the competition. The two piece atomizer / flavor cartridge is now all unified into one (like Green Smoke). It used ot be a downside that the replacement of cartridges was slightly more complicated than with Green Smoke since there was an atomizer, battery, and a smoke cartridge to put together. Now they are just one flavor cartridge/atomizer … I plan on using bluCig alot more. It is just a cool look with the blue light
